Matt Armour

Just a wee update from Jane regarding Matt's funeral arrangements.

The "nostalgic" reception will now be held at The Bull Hotel in Stony Stratford after the service which is still at St Mary's and St Giles' church in Stony on Thursday the 26th Feb at 2:00pm.

Ian Anderson

Matt passed away on 9th February 2009 at the age of 73.  As messages and tributes pour in, it is clear that his legacy is tremendous in so many ways - his impact on the folk scene, his own music, his bands, clubs and sessions, his ever-spreading circle of friends and his very affectionate links to Jane and his family, including four young grandchildren.

The influence of his home town of Anstruther in the East Neuk of Fife was enormous, remaining a very important part of him and his music.  He captured the changing tides in the fortunes of his countrymen in his music and felt very close to them.  Further south, his adopted home of Stony Stratford soon adopted him and he has been at the forefront of the folk scene from the old Stony Stratford Folk Club days, through Whittlebury, the Song Loft and the Vaults.

The pictures on this website are watercolours painted by Matt’s father, Dr Matthew Armour, son, grandson and great-grandson of former Matthew Armours of Caithness and Orkney.  Matt’s family hope that you will enjoy reading some of the wonderful tributes that we have received.

Please feel free to post any further tributes, anecdotes or memories at the following http://tribute.mattarmour.co.uk

Matt’s close friend Roddy set up a MySpace page, where you can see some more photos and listen to some of Matt’s music.
